Hi! I'm Lakiesha and I'm so glad you are here. I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I've been in the field of social work for over 20 years. I have worked in various positions including: Case Manager, CASA trainer, Special Education Co-Teacher, Counselor, Teen Life Coach, Tutor, Advocate and Mental Health Consultant. In addition to my professional experience in the field, I also have lived experience in the foster care system.
I spent 13 years in foster care and was 'unofficially' adopted. I did not let my circumstances define me, I chose to define my circumstances. I was determined to break the cycle. After graduating Salutatorian of my high school class, I went on to attend Clark Atlanta University on full scholarship. Overcoming the obstacle of becoming a young mother while in college, I was able to graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and I later returned to school to complete my Masters of Social Work degree from Georgia State University. I became a Licensed Master Social Worker but I didn't stop until I became fully licensed as a Clinical Social Worker and an Adoption Competent Therapist.
I'm here because I can relate to the pain of abandonment, grief, loss, feelings of anger and unanswered questions. The good news is that you don't have to struggle alone and you don't have to stay there in your sorrow. It's not easy rewriting the narrative. It's not easy letting go of what no longer serves you. It's not easy to let your guard down and let someone in. It will require a lot of work. But it's worth it. And you can do it. Let me help you. Create your own happy ending. You are the Rainbow After the Rain.
